Our Honorees

Carla and Josh Klapper have lived in Scarsdale and have been members of the
Young Israel of Scarsdale for more than 40 years, where Josh served as both
Vice President and President.
They are very happy and proud that their children Elliot and Ilisa Klapper and
Natalie and Simmy Richton moved into the community along with their wonderful
grandchildren and are also members of the Young Israel of Scarsdale.
It has been an honor to be connected to Rabbi Moshe and Corinne Fuchs and the Sons
of Israel of the Bronx Shul.

Fred Sugarman
Fred has always been active and prominent in Jewish communal life involved with the HIR and SAR, and serving for many years as the Vice President and as President of the RJC. Fred also proudly served as Commissioner of the RJC Kosher Little League to support our kid’s passion for baseball. Both Fred and Rabbi Fuchs are passionate Yankee and Giants fans.
Fred Sugarman’s involvement with Rabbi Moshe Fuchs and The Sons of Israel goes back some thirty years. Affectionately called “Bagel Man” by the congregants. Fred has immense respect for the work done by this historic Kehilla.
Betty and Fred Sugarman have three children, two daughters living in the Riverdale area and a son who resides in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights. Betty and Fred have eight grandchildren who attend SAR and Luria Academy in Brooklyn. Fred recently retired from Yeshiva College after serving as a Dean for two decades. He still teaches classes in the Yeshiva College Honors program.

David and Beth Braunstein resided in Pelham Parkway from 1980 to 1996. David served as president of the Young Israel of Astor Gardens. In 1996, they moved to Riverdale and have been active members of the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, since. David has served with distinction as president of the HIR and is also a partner in its Chevra Kadisha. Professionally, David is the Vice President of Sales at IDT retail and Beth recently retired from a career in Library Science and Child Education. Beth and David have been longtime supporters of the Soviet Jewry movement and are proud that Rabbi Fuchs and the Sons of Israel Synagogue continue to serve our Russian Brethren.

Artie and Elaine Bloom
Elaine, a third generation Bronxite Is a passionate early childhood educator who was a preschool director for 25 years and now serves as an educational consultant. She was an Adjunct Professor of Education at Yeshiva University, Stern College for Women.
Artie, a CPA, spent most Of his career as a tax partner at Marks Paneth LLP, specializing in tax, estate and financial planning. A former Yankee fan who grew up in Brooklyn, he has since become an avid Mets fan living in the Bronx. Artie is the Treasurer of the Riverdale Y and serves as Executive Vice President of The Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, The Bayit.
Elaine and Artie’s connection to the Pelham Parkway community spans generations. As owners of Anshen’s Health Food on White Plains Road, Elaine’s parents served their customers for three decades.
Elaine and Artie were married at the Community Center of Israel and were members of Young Israel of Astor Gardens for over twenty years.
They raised their three children on the beautiful tree lined streets of Pelham Parkway. They are the proud parents of Chani & Nate, Avi & Anat and Shana & Ben who are all deeply connected to their respective communities.
Their greatest joy is spending time with their grandchildren.

Mark Wasserman grew up in Pelham Parkway. He and his wife Anne with his parents and family have always been staunch supporters of Congregation Sons Of Israel Of The Bronx.

Jan and Shelly have been longtime members of the Young Israel of New Rochelle, where they raised three children who are now active in their respective communities. Jan serves as Vice President of the executive board of Bnai Zion Foundation, and together they have devoted themselves to supporting numerous important causes and organizations.
Deeply committed to Sons of Israel, they have hosted its congregation in its own community for many years, creating and sharing meaningful programs and events. They are honored to celebrate Sons of Israel community and Rabbi Moshe Fuchs for the wonderful work he continues to lead, inspiring so many through his leadership and dedication.
